Headaches Are Common – But Not Normal

Woman grabbing head.

If you’re dealing with frequent headaches, make an appointment with our practice.

You may believe that everyone gets headaches. After all, they’re normal, right? Some are dull; others are throbbing. Some occur on only one side; others produce nausea or light and sound sensitivity.

Common? Yes. But normal? Not at all.

The three most common types of headaches are:

  • Tension headaches caused by muscle tension in the head, neck or shoulders as a result of emotional stress. These can become constant when tightened muscles fail to relax.
  • Migraine headaches may be triggered by certain foods, smoke, wine, weather, stress or hormonal changes. These tend to be more common in women than in men.
  • Cervicogenic headaches, often resulting from whiplash, poor posture or structural and functional changes to the neck and shoulders, frequently produce pain in the forehead or behind the eyes.

Many reach for some type of pain reliever when headache pain emerges. Some migraine sufferers take daily medications designed to prevent a headache from even starting. But these medications can produce some potentially dangerous and unwanted effects.  As our whiteboard says in our office this week:  “taking pills daily is like putting tape over check engine light.”  You can cover it up, but the issue is still there.

Chiropractic Care and Headaches

Many people tend to find relief from chronic headaches when they begin chiropractic care. It is our goal to discover underlying spinal issues in patients that may be causing headaches, including subtle misalignments, loss of a proper cervical curve, or the effects of long-standing spinal decay.

Next time you or someone you know has a headache, instead of reaching for a pill, reach for the phone and call Celina at the office to make an appointment.  Remember, the June promotion is still going on! Refer a friend that holds their appointment by June 30 and they get $100 in credit toward their first visit.
